I don't understand why everyone hates American Dad so much. I guess it's like the whole Futurama/Simpsons thing all over again what with the similarites to Family Guy and all, but unlike Futurama, American Dad is absolutely hilarious. I bought the box-set on pay day and it is so worth every penny. Some episodes are better than others, which is always the case with these kind of shows, but the absolute gem in this set is the two-part season finale. I almost wet the bed when "Thundercat" told everyone what was for pudding. Get the set and watch them now! The only thing I can say I don't really like about it is the goldfish... I don't think that joke works terribly well.

I also got the final series of Six Feet Under on DVD (I spent an absolute fortune on DVDs this week... I don't know how I will be able to live for the rest of the month) and it's all over, which makes me sad, but it ended brilliantly. I'm not going to say anything about it really because some of you may want to see it, but I would say it's worth watching all the seasons you missed just to understand a bit better what happens at the end. Ruth Fisher is absolutely amazing.

No money is going to spent on cigarrettes this month. I got 2 free packs of tobacco and I am going to smoke them. Unfortunately I roll the most retarded cigs ever and it can be a bit of a pain but I need to save cash for the gigs this month and my visit to Manchester.

Apparently Dresden Dolls are playing a free gig in Princes Square Centre on Friday at 3pm. I think I kind of want to go. It's odd though, I hear the centre is on Buchanan Street but I have absolutely no idea where it is. I think I walk around Glasgow with my eyes shut.

That's all really.

Get American Dad!

I haven't updated this thing in a long, long time. I think not updating sort of speaks for itself in saying that I have been really rather busy, but strangely enough, busy acheiving nothing. All good though because these event have all been rather memorable.

Fiona Apple in London was great. I think I decided that night that 'I Know' and 'Extraordinary Machine' are my absolute favourites of hers. Many thanks once again to Burak and John for helping me out.

I managed to miss 2 gigs (Giant Drag and Ben Kweller) due to exhaustion.

Do uni work.

Get drunk lots.

Realise I have an annoying 'thing' for someone.

Come back to work.

Read lots.

I think myspace is beginning to end my livejournal days.

Hope you're all swell.

ain't she pretty?

What Kristin Hersh is saying about her new record

"I'm watching Dave Narcizo (Throwing Muses drummer) play drums and it is good. In fact, we're playing together again, just not at the same time. Science marches on.

It's been awhile since I've seen Dave do anything but draw pictures. Really good pictures, mind you, but I can't hear them and hearing is my favorite sense (I fell in love with my husband over the phone). Dave drumming is very easy on the ears -- a happy sound."

"Now Steve, Billy, the dogs and I will finish the record alone but, I gotta say, it's sounding e-freakin'-normous. I don't often make big records, especially not solo ones, but this record is size large. Size chest-thumpingly large. A husky boy. 6X."

"The gay and laughing McCarricks are back in London now, which is too bad, 'cause I was starting to get used to having them here. They play a mighty beautiful string and their porn names are easily the best this side of Bernie's"

"I'm on my way from LA to Nashville, where my beloved Trina Shoemaker, late of Kingsway Studio in New Orleans, is going to mix the new acoustic record. Steve Rizzo patiently rough-mixed with me over the phone, sending us MP3's of the tracks while we caught up with 50FootWave and its associated Los Angeles pals: Peter Mansinne (guitar genie), Orrin Anderson (videographer) and Lisa Fletcher (photographer/videographer). I get a serious group high in that wacky city because of that wacky band."

The album isn't scheduled for release until at least September this year, which is over 6 months away but damn am i excited! It's been over 3 years since The Grotto and by the sounds of things, it won't sound anything at all like it at all. I'm hoping for a Sunny Border Blue mixed with some of the nicer tunes from Hips and Makers with maybe a bit of scary 50 Foot Wave singing added in places. I don't get excited about many of my favourite artists anymore because they've become dull and predictable (or in some cases just rubbish [see Liz Phair]). The thing with Kristin is you just don't know what you're going to get next.

What's in the air today? Everyone seems to be as high as a kite. It could possibly be these Gold Leaf cigarettes I am smoking... who knows? This is good however so I shall not complain.

I am so overcome with joy because the music fans in my office today actually showed an interest in one of my favourite albums ever - Limbo by Throwing Muses, so I gave them the Kristin Hersh story and I just realised how excited I am about her new album. She hasn't had a solo one out since The Grotto and I beleive this one has lots of strings so here's hoping it's a less manic version of Hips and Makers. God I love that woman.

Advice Request:
Do I buy tickets for Ladyfuzz? Are they good?

So the Adult. gig on Saturday night was rather amazing. Good crowd, a good band and good company. I have to say that it is always somewhat astonishing when you go to see bands that you have such a high opinion of not being wankers. What stood out for me the most at this gig was how cool it was that Nicola was out in the crowd taking pictures of the support act, Battant, and then herself and Adam were selling their own merchandise after their show. I suppose their somewhat small fan base allows them to do this. I mean can you imagine the chaos that would occur if Madonna were ever to sell her own t-shirts. But yes, I like this.

Anyway, the set in itself was amazing. Highlights were 'Scare Up The Birds', "Nausea", "Human Wreck", "Gimme Trouble" and of course "Pressure Suit"! The special extra song called "Happy Birthday" which was sung to me by Nicola and the crowd. I did feel sort of special but I was filled me with guilt as I pretended it was my birthday just to get "Pressure Suit" performed, but anyway I got a happy birthday followed by a scitzo PS, which was good.

There are more photos in my Flickr of the gig but I only picked out the best because my camera was shit because it only cost 99p. You can see Regina Spektor and Dresden Dolls in this folder too.

So post-gig, we went to art school where I was over drunk. I apologise to anyone who had to listen to my spaztwitter.

I am thinking about making a journal entry tomorrow, in which I shall detail the amazing Adult. gig I attended and my new amazing friend I made afterwards. I'm just about to go to ASDA to collect the snaps so, providing they are of good quality (I got the camera second hand for 99p in a newsagent and this was the first spool), there may be some pics to accompany my tale.

Today I discovered that oriental pears are amazing. They're just like apples that taste like pears but make you look odd because some people might think you are crazy for eating a raw potato. I quite like that idea.

I have lost 10lbs now. Diet obsessed. I'm obviously at midlife and am going to die at 50.

Felt a need to edit the previous entry. It seemed to me that I was complaining about being 25. Pffft.

TOMORROW IS PAY DAY!

!!!

My weekend was good. Just me and Gav in his flat, chatting and listening to our school/teenage-angst days cds and me getting a bit too carried away when we stuck on Live Through This. Such an amazing album and super good fun! I do a great impression of Courtney Love, it's just a shame I don't have the lips. She's a cancerian like me. I bet this little piece of information has made your day.

Last night I went to some health counsellor thing through work. It was not good news I am afraid. Apparently I am 2 stones overweight and have really high blood pressure for a 25 year old male. Bugger! I left the room feeling terrified. Heart attacks are kind of common in my family so I feel I might have to stop smoking. God I am going to be left with no cool qualities what so ever. But anyway, yesterday was a very successful day diet wise. Breakfast I had fruit and fibre (the guy said that I should eat lots of fibre because apparently it's good for poo and if you poo it out before it sits too long in your stomach then your body doesn't absorb so much fat), 2 pitta breads with mackerel and salad for lunch and scrambled egg on toast for dinner and no salt (consuming way too much unneccessary salt is something I am sort of locally famous for). So to sum my "personal report" up, I'm pretty much going to die really soon unless I stop loving chicken skin and kebabs. I couldn't admit that I wanted to lose weight before stopping the smokes because I'm so vain but I will admit here that it is the true reason. But the diet is good except everything tastes rubbish without salt. For all the bad stuff however, I do have a good heart rate and good lungs so I guess that means I will be okay with smoking for now unless I have a heart attack. I should have put all the above under the heading APPARENTLY.

In other news, Desperate Housewives season 2 starts tonight on Channel 4 and I am really excited. I heard an awful rumour that one of the housewives is to be killed off and that there is a strong chance it could be Bree. It better not be or I will be displeased and probably have a heart attack due to stress because I am so unhealthy and stuff. I'm also addicted to Celebrity Big Brother. Pete Burns is the best and I want him to win. I quite dislike Preston and don't think he is quite so innocent as he would like you to believe. Plus, my shallow side thinks he is ugly when he is in the spa.

I also rediscovered Liz Phair's Whip-Smart and I think it's probably my favourite album of hers. It really makes me sad she's rubbish now. Does anyone have her new new one? I heard it was actually much better than album number 4 but I am way too terrified to buy it.

I hate camera phones because they force me to take pictures of myself. My new icon thingy here made me happy because after that report yesterday I got depressed and this one made me look thin. Why does everything look better in black and white?

Bleh...

Isn't January so rubbish. This is what I have done this month.

  • Applied for and am going to begin an Open Uni course
  • Tried about 600 times to successfully complete a UCAS form
  • Discovered I love The L Word
  • Started a diet (today)
  • Set a date for stopping smoking (secret)
  • Decided to go do random stuff for a week in March
  • Applied for approximately 30 new jobs
  • Not yet figured out how to do bullet points here (Edit: Thanks John)

    Hi everybody.

Just a note to let you know that Kristin Hersh's band 50 Foot Wave (who sound not a bit like Throwing Muses or Hersh's solo material) has released their new EP available to download for free via their website. Just click here and you can download it all there. It has been somewhat imaginitively entitled Free Music. Their first EP was amazing and their first album was quite shockingly brilliant so I recommend you investigate (even though I haven't heard it as yet). If you do happen to download it, let me know how it is because my computer is shit and I can't get it and I am feeling rather frustrated right now. Argh!

I really don't feel like writing much about my weekend as it was terribly uninteresting to anyone other than myself really. I was stalked and almost sicked on and that was about it. Oh the glamour! To be honest, I much prefered Sunday when I managed to spend only £18.45 on 6 whole CD albums. Listed below are those albums:

    Blur - Great Escape
    Blur - 13
    Blur - Think Tank
    Sheryl Crow - Globe Sessions
Grandaddy - The Broken Down Comforter Collection
    Grandaddy - Sophtware Slump

I have always intended to buy all of Blur's albums since seeing them live in the Barrowlands a couple of years ago and being quite amazed as to how amazing the gig was and how many great songs they have. Isn't 'The Universal' one of the best songs ever written? I got the Grandaddy ones because they were well cheap and I had them before but had paid about £15 for them so I took them back to FOPP because I didn't really like them all that much but they were worth £4 for the both of them. Sheryl Crow was bought because I remember liking this album more than the others.

But champion of all CDs i have bought this week so far (it's only Monday, I know) is the Legacy Edition of Patti Smith's Horses with the live recording of the album from the Meltdown Festival. It's bring back memories despite me not even being at the actual gig but the gig a week previous with some of my heroines (Kristin Hersh, Tori Amos and Marianne Faithful). I really wish there was an extra disc on here with Marianne coughing up her lung and apologising for having bronchitis and Kristin Hersh saying her songs were crap so she wasn't going to sing them then going into 'Down In The Willow Garden' and me being almost in tears and Tori actually doing a good set. But anyways, the CD really is worth investing a tenner in. I love it.

    That's all

    bgx

p.s. thanks for all yr phone numbers and not getting annoyed at my stupidity.
